Barnard's Atlas, published by the Carnegie Institution of Washington in 1927, pairs 50 photographs of the Milky Way with key charts and a catalogue of dark objects — the “B” numbers astronomers still use. Here the plates can be explored at full detail and the catalogue searched with coordinates updated to J2000.
