History:
From the 1898-99 Announcement: "The new Textile Building is a splendid example of architectural skill in
modern mill construction, and its equipment will be the most complete in the world for education in the
different branches of cotton manufacture. The building is to be equipped with complete systems of
heating, ventilating, electric lighting, humidifiers, shafting, belting, automatic sprinklers, and, in
fact, all apparatus and appliances found in the modern mill." In the Carding Department, equipment
included a Winship Cotton Gin Feeder and Cotton Gin, pickers, cards, lap and combing machines, a railway,
drawing frames, and fly frames. In the Spinning Department, equipment included spinning frames for ring
spinning, a spinning mule, spoolers and twisters. In the Weaving Department, equipment included warping
machines, hand looms, power looms, folders, brushing machine, sewing machine and one windle doubling and
winding machine. In the Dyeing Department equipment included six dye vats, bleaching box and vats,
steamers, a hydro-extractor and dyeing machines."
