Wednesday 1/20/15 #16 Reports to #20 The move at the camps today were more intrusting than in several days in as much as [...] John Carson's daughter Maggie and her sister sent interesting reports from the river mills stating sympathetic employees were many , and they were willing to come out in the spring. I did not read the letter myself but it was made known to entire camp. Also Sam Wilson stated a short time ago he was in the Pawn Shop of Joe Jacobs when a Jew came in telling Jacobs of buying several shares of the mill stock and told Jacobs how cheap it was. Jacobs then called Mr. Elsas or the party selling the stock and made negotiations for several shares. Then Miss cowboy and secatary Mullinax called Jacobs up next day under assumed names and as prospect buyers, and received the information that Mr. Elsas was fast selling his stock and this was embodyed in her complaints against the company to take to Washington D.C. Every body now has instructions not to burden the camps with recruits or advise anyone to quit work until about the first of April unless it be some of the most valuable employees now in the mills, but to get on the good side of everybody. Mr. Thomas wanted money for his wife who is in the hospital looking to be confirmed, but as she had deserted Thomas and returned to Mrs. Pryor , her mother m more was made to get the money and Thomas is sore his wife was Bessie Pryor and has assumed her Maiden name. There were about 12 pickets at noon and Jim Murphey changed a cap for a hat stating that someone might spot him, as did Sigh Prater, they talked of hitting Morgan Saturday night and were warned by A. This means sleep in day and [...] at night. Harry Wilson told of calling up Brown and Hayes place night before last late at night and the watchman ansewered the phone. They were told by Bryan Pierce that Brown has 2 men sleeping in the store. Pierce also stated customers and them aught to steal from Brown because he worked poor girls for 50 and 75 per day. Byron Pierce is financially defunct himself and is turning crooked evidently by his talk and actions. The Magnolias Pharmacy owner Dr. Barrow was arrested for selling cocaine to Flemming and others about 2 pm.
